Walter Naegle (born 1950) was the partner of American Civil Rights leader, Bayard Rustin. Born in rural New Jersey he was raised in a Roman Catholic home with 6 siblings. After graduating from high school in the late 1960s his interest in the nonviolent movement was peaked. Forgoing the military route he dropped out of college and joined Vista. Rustin and Naegle met in 1977.〔 The day that I met Bayard I was actually on my way to Times Square. We were on the same corner waiting for the light to change. He had a wonderful shock of white hair. I guess he was of my parents' generation, but we looked at each other and lightning struck.Due to same-sex marriage being illegal at the time Rustin legally adopted Naegle in 1982.〔 The two were together for 10 years before Bayard's death in 1987.〔 Naegle is now the head of the Bayard Rustin Fund where he helps to educate others on the influence Rustin had throughout the history of the civil rights movement.〔 On November 20, 2013 Naegle accepted the Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in honor of Bayard's work of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.〔 ==References== 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Walter Naegle」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
